The cohort study encompassed 20,195 SMI patients, sourced from the severe mental illness information system in Sichuan province's western region, spanning the period from January 1, 2006, to July 31, 2018. The calculation of mortality rates per 10,000 person-years, for natural causes and suicide, was undertaken with the consideration of distinct patient characteristics.
